Miniled0.9 for small pixel pitch led display’s mass production is around the corner

The development of LED small space display technology opens up a new opportunity for LED indoor application, making it a strong competitor for DLP and LCD splicing. However, in 2020, the current LED small space market has become a red sea, the price competition is fierce, the profit has entered the era of low gross profit of products, p1.25 products have been standardized, and the products have not made a breakthrough for many years. It is still a question mark to what extent they can go down.
The concept of mini LED has been four years since 2017. Although the price has decreased greatly, there is always a price gap compared with P1.2 products. When the mini LED products can change from the “luxury” of the display industry to the “everyday products” that people can reach, it mainly depends on whether the packaging end can overcome the cost bottleneck.
The standard version of mini 0.9, which will be launched by RGB super division at the end of November, will gradually break this price bottleneck and let Mini 0.9 directly target P1.2 products in terms of cost to open a new blue ocean of LED.

1. Cost reduction logic of minimized 0.9
From the perspective of industrial chain cost. In terms of packaging process, miniled 0.9 is consistent with chip LED process, which can directly use chip LED equipment and machines, and can ensure the original mature industrial chain cooperation benefits when the downstream display factory retains SMT process. This is the inherent genetic advantage of miniled packaging represented by miniled 0.9.
In terms of material cost composition of miniled packaging devices, gold wire, chip and PCB account for a relatively high proportion. In the previous process, there is no difference in the cost between the minized 0.9 and 1010 devices. In the first stage, the chip is fed directly from the chips purchased from 1010 devices, and the wavelength and brightness bands with wide color gamut are used for the mini led 0.9 devices. Therefore, the chip cost is almost equal to the purchase cost of 1010 chips when the 1010 chips are divided in a capacity of 4000kk / month. Thanks to the improvement of the test algorithm in the later stage, the test and sorting efficiency of RGB super Division has been improved by 25%.
With the improvement of packaging technology and equipment level, the yield of miniled 0.9 devices is further improved. Theoretically, the cost of purchasing chips and testing sorting is no different from 1010, even because the efficiency improvement is expected to be lower than 1010.
From the previous cost of chip1010 and miniled 0.9, there is no difference in the cost of solder wire; there is a slight difference in the initial stage of chip cost, but it can be basically the same at present, and the main cost difference is in the PCB material.
The mission of miniled 0.9 device is mainly to meet the development trend of micro spacing of LED display, that is to solve the reliability problem of applications below P1.0. However, it is more suitable for the development of frbt chip based on the micro electrode spacing and the distance between the two electrodes. In addition, the area and precision of substrate required by miniled 0.9 device are different from 1010, so few enterprises can supply mass production BT plate at this stage, which also affects the development process of devices below P1.0.
With the arrival of localization trend of BT plate, the supply of BT plate manufacturers such as EPAs EPS, Yinghua new material and Huazheng new material has improved, and more new PCB players and small manufacturers have gradually realized mass production. At present, the cost has decreased significantly. Because the overall size of miniled 0.9 is 1616, which is smaller than the total area of four 1010. Therefore, when the supply chain is more mature, in theory, fewer substrate materials will be used and the material cost will be lower.
To sum up, miniled 0.9 can perfectly undertake the advantages of SMD 1010 in terms of scale and price, and the price will only be lower than that of 1010 in the future.
2. Cost reduction roadmap with minimum 0.9
As a leader in the packaging industry, Guoxing RGB super business department will launch cost-effective Mini 0.9 standard products at the end of November this year to meet the broader market demand. It is expected to achieve 0.015 yuan / pixel in 2021. For the whole screen cost, 40000 yuan / m2 is only Guoxing’s first goal.
